In collaboration with Griffith University, Queensland, Australia, a two-day international workshop was held in Bangkok, in November 2019.The meeting was the first in the field of Oral Health Related Birth Cohort (OHRBC) research to be held. It brought together 12 experts who have been engaged in OHRBC studies to discuss and exchange information on the methods used in their research. The knowledge gained on early childhood caries and other dental outcomes in children was also considered.
One important outcome from the workshop will be the publication of the first ‘critical review’ of OHRBC studies, which is soon to be published in the Journal of Dental Research. In parallel, a scoping review being conducted at Griffith University, will be published separately.
The group also considered the possibilities for creating a consortium of OHRBC to encourage joint research. Although a number of consortia exists for general birth cohort research, this would be the first OHRBC consortium.
